Both phones have their good points. One thing you can't say is that one is better at everything than the other. Here is an interesting article:

http://lifehacker.com/5559357/iphone-vs-android-showdown-which-phone-is-best-for-power-users

If I had to do it all over again, I might pick the HTC Incredible over the iPhone just because of the phone(carrier being ATT) aspect. If verizon had an iPhone, I would still pick the iPhone. Love the display on the iPhone4 and love the iPod interface. Battery life is very good on the iPhone4. Those are a couple things where Android phones are lacking. When good apps come out, they are always written for iPhones first, then they are ported over to Android phones. I have nothing personal against Steve Jobs and hard to figure out why he would help make your decision on what hardware to use.

I am also in the telecommunications industry. I design the signal processing for digital upconvertor/downconvertors for WCDMA and LTE network radio heads.

Funny you say that when good apps come out they are written first for Iphone.... that statement alone, shows your ignorance on the matter. So you design LTE, and don't want a phone that can utilize it? So..... you would rather not see any flash on the internet while surfing on the phone... it wouldn't be nice to be able to copy and paste?..rather only be tied to one carrier, only be allowed to go to a certified apple dealer for ANY service, only be allowed to use what jobs says is acceptible. How about a choice of cases...wait you can't with the Iphone 4, considering it won't even operate without a special case...lol, consumers reports said they can't even recomend getting one based on its lack of reliability in terms of signal, because of flawed designing.... its just a status symbol to have an Iphoney. If you want to really look at it, look at who's on top as far as sales, and you'll see that Android took over months ago. Where is your Iphone app that let's you create your own app....lol, yeah I have and app for that, and its has nothing to do with apple.

As far as Task-Killers... you guys need to do some research... ITS NOT NEEDED... don't believe me??? read what the developers of android say about it...

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-applications/65483-task-killers-answer-google-developers.html

As far as the last comment.... apple does indeed review the apps. I agree that andriod has some more growing to do in this department, although only a fool would fall victim to the ones that are stealing your info... they are as easy to spot as a car salesman in a leather jacket, alligator boots, and slicked back hair.:D

Its needed if you want the battery to last all day. The developers can say what they want, but I complained about the battery life with my Motorola and I took it back to Verizon.... they installed the Advanced Task Killer and the problem went away. ;)

But I see your point.... we should all spend a few hours reseaching every app before we install it... just to make sure all the experts are okay with it.

Speaking of ignorance, you are aware that for the iPhone 3G and 4, has had cut-and-paste, as well as multitasking, since the 4.x OS upgrade? ;)

Many (including myself) often find flash web pages, annoying on the desktop. Why would we want them on a 3" display screen?

As a former IT pro, hearing OS developers, saying "no problem" with memory usage, and therfore no need for using a "task killer", would instantly make me skeptic. Andriod users are becoming frustrated, because their applications are running slower, due to multitasking memory usage. While it's true that the applications are likely the problem here, the the OS is responsible for handling them and maybe needs to have better controls in place for the app developers API. Apple has a very tight API on apps, That why they need to be approved.

Although Apple has it's propriety grip (what else is new?) on the iPhone, including it's disdain for flash and AT&T is milking it's licensing, is more than just annoying, painting the iPhone as the exact opposite technically, from the Android devices, is completely inaccurate and just plain biased, IMO.

i didnt mean to start an argument between the tecnical folks on this subject. i did go ahead and get a droid htc incredible this weekend. i love it. going from a flip phone to droid is quite painful. but im getting better. i def want to try the task killer. now im needing more advice from the folks that have it. im trying to find a good app to watch tv or movies. ive downloaded a few only to uninstall them after trying it. maybe im expecting to much. just not much to my liking on the ones i chose. and when downloading these apps or music for mp3, is it going to the phone memory or the chip? i guess im concerned about loading up the phone and it making it slow down

Re: have the iboaters went for the smart phones

I have an intelligent phone. Not sure how "smart" it is but right now it handles my needs. I have the Samsung Instinct HD. It films really good HD video. I can surf the web, email and such. It has a touch screen so there are not that many mechanical moving parts. My son wore out his previous phone and LG with a slide out keyboard. In less than a year and over 50,000 texts he had to replace the phone. The keyboard was just plain overworked. He ended up the the Samsung Instinct s30 also a touch screen.

We're both looking to upgrade next year. Right now its narrowed down to the Samsung Epic and the HTC EVO. That could change if something new comes out before the next upgrade. I am with Sprint and IMO they have the best plan on the market. The everything data share plan. There is unlimited data, unlimited mobile to mobile (any network), unlimited web, unlimited texting and so on. I like this plan so much I finally dumped my land line.

Who knows what we will end up doing. We might even decide to keep our current phones but I do like the EVO and Epic. We'll see.

My wife went from a Blackberry Pearl to the Droid X like I mentioned. The Droid is simply huge by comparison to the Pearl which is the biggest thing to get used to for her. She has a history of dropping phones in the water so I got her a hip case for the Droid and it's like a gun on your hip. As for TV the Droid had an app already on the home screen which is great but there is almost no content. Literally it's like the BBC and a few others. Not sure what goes to the internal memory vs the memory chip. There are no instructions other than a quick start guide included in the box and I haven't had the opportunity to get them off the internet.

Re: have the iboaters went for the smart phones

I'm liking my Droid X a whole lot. In fact, I've been spending a lot less time on my home PC since I've gotten this phone. I can check my email, surf the net, and the Droid applications available are very useful.
As for Advanced Task Killer, I think it's effectiveness depends on what phone/OS you're using.
For me, it made no difference, but others seem to benefit. If you think it works, go for it.
I am on Verizon's grid, so no I phone (yet) to compare against, and I'm not sure if the new Windows based phones will take off- I phone and Droid have such a head start, I'm thinking the Windows phones may take a back seat.
My $30/month data plan is fine by me, but others that use their phones a bit less may be able to get by with the ala-carte data options that Verizon offers. I won't, however, pay the yet additional $20/month they want for a wi-fi hotspot. I can connect to my home wi-fi, and to anywhere else that has public wi-fi, or just go on the Verizon network.

Re: have the iboaters went for the smart phones

My family uses & loves IPhones as for Androids I have a friend that has one & personally haven't seen it do anything my IPhone can't or at least that I want to do. I don't mind the data plan especially since I am grandfathered with unlimited data plan. I use it for most everything in my daily business life. As for AT&T I have been their cell customer for about 20 yrs now & they always have come thru so far so I have no reason to look else where just so I can save a few dollars. They have always Grandfathered old plans as long as I want to keep them which from what I have heard other carriers don't always do this. I also still have a AirCard which is also unlimited.

So yes I don't know what I would do without my IPhone although who knows my next one could be an Android as long as AT&T still has them available. I definitely hate contracts & wish companies would realize contracts without an easy way out cause more negative than good for their reputations.

Re: have the iboaters went for the smart phones

I'm smarter then a smart phone. I pay 39.00 bucks a month for my regular dumb cell phone. I depend on my cell phone to do business. On mine I'm on a system that is "find me follow me anywhere." It rings on my cell, shows up on my computer, even bothers me while having sex once in a while. A smart phone is for those that like to spend a lot of money.

In my business I tell co workers that an electronic sales person sees us with a big S from our forehead to our toes, "SUCKER." Some spend thousands to make a few dollars.

I'm not sure I follow your math. I'm looking into upgrading to smart phones. For three smartphones with data and texting on verizon I'm looking at around $200. That's for 3.

Re: have the iboaters went for the smart phones

I have four cell phones in my plan. All four unlimited talk and text, and one with unlimited data. The cost is 149.00 and total bill is 163.50 each month. I suggest shopping for a more cost effective plan if you were charged 400.00 for one phone.

Re: have the iboaters went for the smart phones

I'm not a tekkie guy. I had a BlackBerry 8330 for 2 years, and thought it was the cats meow. It was/is a good phone. Works fine. E-Mail was great. Keyboard is small.

I got the DROID X, and am completely astonished by the way this phone works !!! It is so much faster than a BB !!

My buddy got a new BB (don't remember the model #, but was a good BB). SO we did a test. We both typed in the site to the newpaper in the area. I was reading mine while his was downloading !!!!! He has Sprint, and I have Verizon.

I hate to say it, but UNLESS Black Berry pulls a rabbit out of the hat pretty soon. They will be done !!!!!! I hate to see that, because they were good in their time.

Bottom line. The DROID X is a great phone !!!!!!
