Re: Have the Olympic "sports" gotten weird?
Can't disagree.
....but some of the "sports" don't really seem much like a sport to me.
Not sure why you are so concerned about a game's status as a "sport".

The "Sport-or-not" discussion is a tired, old debate that happens every Olympics; a few have an axe to grind over inclusion of some
GAMES ... (that is why they are called the Olympic
Games)...., and the exclusion of some others. There is more than enough coverage (that is an understatement

) for anyone to be able to tune out an irritant (much like you and I mostly ignore each others posts and comments

)....and tune in something we like.
The IOC has to try and focus on games that have broad appeal globally AND demographically and are reasonably inclusive economically.
With apologies to Mr. Lincoln, you can't
please all of the people.... all of the time.
Just be glad that Baron de Coubertin never met the Montgolfiers!
Club Swinging: Two clubs are swung about the body in different patterns, speeds, directions, planes and phases. Sometimes the clubs are thrown but are usually held all the time. Some toss jugglers don't consider club swinging to be "real juggling" as the props are not thrown and caught enough. Club swinging is also done with heavy wooden clubs as a form of exercise or fitness training.
Sounds like you may be talking about Rhythmic Gymnastics. Clubs are one of the apparatuses that they use.
Incredibly skilled participants, amazing coordination, balance, and strength. It doesn't really interest me, I am not fond of the judged competitions, but it is probably closer to the Olympic credo than say, skeet shooting.
Rope Climbing: Rope climbing is a sport in which competitors, usually men, attempt to climb up a suspended vertical rope using only their hands.
Rope climbing?? That is an odd activity to mention for no obvious reason.....what, shuffleboard didn't want any of this thread? (hint: it's not in The Games either)
VolleyBall Beach: Is now played indoors with a little sand on the floor?
Of all the venues this one has consistently received the best reviews....what a location.
Indoors? .....hardly.

Badmiton: Really? That's a real sport???
"Badmiton" sets are available at Walmart for under $25-, and I agree, not a very interesting activity.
Badmi-
N ton, is the fastest racquet sport on the planet ~ at the top levels the bird travels at more than 180 MPH...about 80% faster than a Nolan Ryan fastball.
It is popular all over the world and actually fits the Olympic mold very well.
