Re: Have to get it off my chest.

Congrats to all who are comfortable enough to admit they sew...I like the fact that my mom's brand new Pfaff can embroider Walleye, Salmon, and white-tail buck images loaded from a disk on my generic solid color fleeces and make them look sweet. Nuthin wrong with sewin:D

BTW I've seen craigslist ads around here from a guy who claims to be a master bimini top maker that seems REAL proud of his abilities. I may get ahold of him if I ever need some made.

One of our closest friends owns an awning shop and now owns a fantastic custom boat top company. He drives a new truck that tows his new custom ski boat....... I will never laugh at him for sewing....... now about you drinking light beer..... that gets a chuckle! :D

Re: Have to get it off my chest.

Dude - I sew! I just sewed a big rip in my boat cover about a week ago and saved $50 on another one. I sew every time my wife gets the darn sewing machine out because she can't sew very good. I had to teach her how to thread the bobbin and start and finish.

It's almost not fair though. I got stuck with a Field Service unit for two weeks at Ft. AP Hill when I was in the Reserves. I ran sewing machines for a solid two weeks and I sewed and sewed and sewed. It was a big joke then, but now I can sew!

Good luck men.

Laugh it up?

I don't think sew (sorry, couldn't resist) man, that's cool. Let me know when you get it down and I'll send you some business.

BTW, I sew better than my wife can. I should know, my father taught me...

Re: Have to get it off my chest.

I just bought a sewing machine off CL for $20. same thing, I want to re-do the rest of my interior panels and seats. nothing wrong with it, and my girlfriend helps give me pointers and stuff. she can sew, but whats the fun in letting her do all the work by herself?

Maybe we should start isew.com  or we could join an existing sewing forum. I'm thinking the gender ratio would be iboats in reverse . . .

Re: Have to get it off my chest.

Another iboat sew'er here too. Grandmother taught me when I was young, and also got the merit badge in Cub Scouts. It comes in handy sometimes and definately can save some money.

On a side note, I'm a pretty competitive and creative type of guy. Soooo, my wife, who croche's, decided she wanted to learn to knit. Well one night we got the "teach yourself to knit" kit, and competed with each other to see if we could figure it out. Let me tell you....it kicked our a**es. That crap is HARD to learn.

And now....I hand over my mancard.

I sew as well, started when I was making power kites to ski and buggy behind, then it just kinda kept going, it is a great skill. Have fun.

Besides, if someone says anything, you can sew their mouth shut for them.

Re: Have to get it off my chest.

when i would stay with my Granny, back in the early 50's, she did not have a TV, just a radio. i would sit on the opposite side of her treddle sewing maching, and work the treddle for her. i learned a lot watching that women. she made all our shirts, and Mom and sisters dresses. i do not have a store bought shirt until teen years.

i have one of the original Singer Electric Machines. i have built many boat seats, made all the curtains, and drapes for your houses.

when you really look at what you are doing. it is the same as any construction project.

to be really good, it is a real talent.

My grandfather did needlepoint for a little bit. And I sure wasn't going to tell that retired Army Col. it wasn't manly :) Seriously though I really need to learn because I have some things that need to be done and my wife seems to have no interest.
