I haven't had the pump actually fail, but had the hose/thru-hull fitting clog at the worst time. We were plowing through 3-4'ers and spray was blowing into the boat, bilge pump was running, but not keeping up. After the engine stalled out, water over starter, I took a piece of wire and fished dirt, seeds, bug nest out of the thru-hull fitting. After that, the pump was back to normal and was able to keep up with the water blowing in the boat.
When I got back home, I added a second bilge pump...
The new (rebuilt) boat has 2- 800GPH bilge pumps, 1 on a float switch.
