Have you seen my box?

Shown here is what might be a live well, without the pump. This is on the helm side. Under the cushion is a fitted lid that will lift up. In the back (far end) is a drain. The forward part, where the helm seat is, looks like it could lift up but is screwed and sealed in place.

I have found three pictures of another boat like mine and it shows this box on the passenger side and a small galley cabinet on the helm side.

I'm thinking I'd like another box like this for now until I put the galley in. Has anyone seen this? Know it's name or maker? Have one you want to sell?
Thanks
Dennis

It's a box...make one.
Uh huh, thanks. Yes, I will probably end up making one. I know I'll end up making the galley. But, in the meantime, I was looking for another matching box so I can bring the passenger seat up to the same level plus add some quick storage.

From the shape and rim I'd guess it's either salvage from another boat or a generic drop-in deck box of some kind. It looks like it's meant to mount flush with a surface, either a bulkhead or deck.

Look around and you should be able to find similar types of storage boxes, but unless you get really lucky you probably won't be able to match this one exactly. I'd look at greatlakesskipper and some other salvage/surplus places, and of course check iboats' store :)

Thanks Erik. Yup, I've been checking places. As much as I can anyway. Nothing yet.

Re: Have you seen my box?

Well, finding another box to match yours will be difficult, but no doubt you can find something with the same interior space, color, and approximate shape without too much problem.

I think the big question is, what do you intend to fit into your box and how much space do you want remaining? Does your box need a rubber gasket to protect it from unwanted liquids, do you need extra security on your box to prevent unauthorized access? How much use has your box gotten in the past? Was it worn out, and do you need a stronger, more durable box as a replacement?

If you want exactly the same box you'll have to pay the big bucks for a professional to make it match exactly. Most owners in your position aren't too picky though, they'll take any box that serves their need provided it's not too expensive or hard to get. Personally I'd take whatever box I could get since I'm more interested in function than in the specifics of color or age, and I don't care what other people think about how it looks.

I guess I'd say how you like your box is a personal choice, but do post back here with whatever you do with your box and let us see how it looks.

A-hem.... The pro's were overseas and I was in the Navy....Any port in a storm....

And watch who you call picky. I had the scruples cured LONG ago.

As I'm into or nearing my middle-age years, depends on how you look at it, I think this would be a stop-gap box and not a trophy box. I'm not selective and pretty much any box is a good box. Simply, a serviceable box until I get the time to design a fancier galley type box. Not to big, not to small. I would really like a nice matched pair until I build the upgraded box though. Something about matched boxes that can really open your throttle, if you know what I mean.

Ok Ok Ok....sorry I got off track...my mind hit the gutter. I may grow old but I'll never grow up:D

It that box fiberglass? If so, could you get a local auto body or boat shop to build one to your exact specifications? Might cost a bit more then a plain jane store bought one but in the long run I think you would like it better.

Those are pretty nice boxes. Some of the best I've seen lately. This is also very similar to what is planned for the "galley" box. A place to mount a passenger seat, a raised area with a single burner alcohol stove and small sink, and a cushion behind that. Just a simple place to sit, warm coffee, and wash hands.

I could but if I'm going to do that, I'll go ahead a build the galley box myself. I have another major project I'm starting on so the galley is low-priority right now. I was hoping to be able to find a similar box and just slam it in there for right now.
