Re: Haverstraw, Stony Point NY

I went on a fishing charter out of Stony Point a couple of times. That is if you mean Stony Point Marina on lake Ontario.

Yeah
We keep a '85 26' Sea Ray up in Belle Harbor marina in Stony Pt. NY, right across from the large part of the bay, a little south of Stony Pt. itself. Good boating, although not many places to stop except for Croton and up north more. Where in NJ are ya at?

Look at that. Have you been there before? I know a lot of people boat up by Stony Pt., I figured at least a few more would have responded.

Re: Haverstraw, Stony Point NY

My father used to keep his boat at Belle Harbor (Summers of 1996-2000). Now he is at M.Y.C. I'm actually going to get my boat from winter storage (South Jersey) on Thursday and bring it up there. I have off pretty much all of March. So, I'll be up there this whole month getting the boat ready. I have a maroon Jeep Wrangler, look out for me. Side question: How are the mechanics at Belle Harbor? I used to know Ed Pucchio YEARS ago. From what I remember he was a honest guy. Do you know him and if you do can you tell me how to get set up with him?

Yeah I'll keep an eye out. The mechanic there right now is Jimmy, he is good from what I hear. Good guy from when I've dealt with him, he'll take care of you. Don't know Ed by name, perhaps by sight? We only deal with them for some parts in an emergency or shrinkwrap. I'll keep an eye out for ya, I kind of remember seeing an 18' or so OB boat there with an "Invader" type name on the side, it had a 140 Johnson on it I believe from recollection. Were you there last summmer towards the end? What was your Dad's boat?

My boat has never seen that area. I just bought it. My dad's name is Manny. He had a Sea Ray at the time when he was at Belle Harbor.

Well cool deal its good to know someone else that boats up there from the board. One thing though, it does get hot in the summer...but I suppose everywhere does lol. Destination wise up there, people like to shoot across the bay to Croton, its a nice anchorage. You can anchor out about a 100' from shore and its 5' to nothing all the way in; sand bottom too. Just don't trip over a dead shad when you're swimming like I did :) Other than that, you can also go down to the Tappan Zee bridge and chase the blo boaters around or head up to West point. There are really a lot of places to go, but unfortunately not many to stop as nearly the whole river unprotected from the channel in most areas. Where in NJ are you from? I'm from Park Ridge, which is about a minute south of the NY border; therefore its only like a 30 min ride to get up to the marina up the PIP. Oh yeah and July 4th there are nice fireworks.

I've been boating in that area sine 1995. I'm 24, I grew up in Tenafly. I just got my own place in Bogota. When are you gonna start to "prep" your boat for the Summer?

Re: Haverstraw, Stony Point NY

I see a little mis-communication here. This is MY first "real" boat. I've been using my dinghy as my boat (Whatever you wanna call it) for years. I'm sure you've seen me around. As the dinghy is 12 feet long. My dad moved to Mineceango (sp) a few years ago. Around the same time Bill Figel did. (You know the guy who always smokes the pipe?) I have off this whole month. Ummm...I'm gonna head up there on Saturday. I don't know if I wanna take the shrink-wrap off because I have no cover. They just opened a West Marine up there, I was thinking of making a stop there. However, I used to work at the West Marine by the Bada Bing Summer of 03. I know Hector, John, etc. Maybe they can hook me up with a deal on a cover. I don't know. I don't even know if winter is over, it could snow in 2 weeks. It's up in the air right now what I'm gonna do.

Hey
Yeah the cover will probably come off sometime this month. As for West marine, I go usualy to the one in Lodi by the club so I haven't tried to go to the one in Haverstraw yet. But I am looking forward to it. I'd say you'd be OK to take the cover off now and start your spring work because I'm betting there won't be any more snow this year. But I could be wrong. I've probably seen you around but than again I can't remember last week so... As for spring work, it wouldn't take long to just get her ready for the drink, probably only a weekend to bottom paint and get all the systems back online if you have a water system and such.

Re: Haverstraw, Stony Point NY

The truck is in the shop til' Monday. Went there Friday afternoon to find out it was still being worked on. Had to rent a car, a Kia (haha). I'm planning on heading up there today (Saturday) and just looking at it. There is no point in taking off the shrink-wrap, if it's gonna snow/rain within the next couple of weeks. During the month of April, I'm definately going to get the boat ready for the season. I care about my investment and don't want to start something and not be able to finish it because the next time I head up there it'll be freezing.

One thing and please don't laugh:
I haven't gotten the slightest clue as how to take the shrink-wrap off. Maybe one weekend you and I can meet up there and discuss boat prepping.

Shrink wrap is easy to take off, just give it a slice and start taking it off. Not a biggie, fairly intuitive. As for the more snow, I hope we don't get any more; with the weather the way its been maybe spring is on its way. Don't worry about rain getting on it, she'll get plenty wet while in the water!
