Having Problems with 1997 Mercury 150HP EFI V6

I have a 1997 ProCraft 185 Pro with a Mercury V6 150 EFI 2-stroke that has been sitting for about 2 years. It was running before it was parked, but the guy who worked on it said the oil pump wasn’t working. Now it cranks but won’t start. Should I be looking at fuel, spark, or something else first? Also, would it be better to run premixed gas and remove/bypass the oil injection, or should I fix the oil pump and keep the factory system? Any advice is appreciated

You need to run a 50::1 gas/oil mix until you are sure the oil injection system is working.

I would test for spark first, as that is the easiest. Check for a kill lanyard, as most controls have a switch/lanyard combo. If the switch is off, spark is killed.

A compression test would be next.

I have no comment on the oil injection system. That is the last system to worry about now, as lots of engines of that age run gas/oil premix.

do you have an OEM manual or it?.. if not send me an email addy and i'll send ya tha PDF for it.... it will be a big help with it.. if you know tha motors history, that can determine 'bout tha oiler or not.. if you have no clue as to how it was treated then ya might wanna delete and pre-mix........ jmo

No i don't have the oem manual, But i would appreciate u sending it to me. I have no clue about the motor history jst know that sumthing was wrong with the oiler, it was sum like it was sucking oil, that my grandpas friend told me. Here is my email sudhitmalik@gmail.com. Thank you!!

So i'm tryna figure out what wire to remove for the oiler system. I did look at the manual but it jst made it confusing so please help! Thanks

you will need this first...

.. 'bout any merc dealer will have it also.. its pretty self explanatory on installation after pump removal...

then you will need to remove tha oil tanks, both (be sure ta plug tha fitting directly under tha starter motor) in tha boat and on tha motor.. then tha oil pump itself...tha control module also.. its gonna be a black box approx. 2" X 4" mounted on top of tha motor.. tha oiler control will have 7 wires.. green, tan/blue, purple, lite blue/white, white, black and a lite blue.. page: ELECTRAICAL-2D-6, item 2.. this will also remove tha little module/red led under tha fuel filter...

But if i do take the control moudule off, wouldn't it take the temperature or rotation sensor off sum like that too? also to be sure its the module that mounted on the top right?

tha one on top of head.. yes you will lose tha rotation sensor (strictly oiler related) but will have no effect on tha over temp sensor or alarm... tha oiler and over temp use tha same alarm buzzer but are completerly different circuits.. tha oiler module does nothing but make tha warning buzzer oscillate instead of tha solid, continuous over temp sound... pre-mix at 40 or 50 ta one (your choice).. pennzoil semi synthetic (Pennzoil Marine XLF, synthetic blend) is very good with these motors...

tha one on tha side is an idle stablizer module.. it can be removed also if ya wanna go thru and re-time tha ignition.. not really necessary ta remove unless it starts giving ya trouble.... a lot of guys (me included) remove jus because its not really neccessay... one less item ta cause trouble.
