having prop re-done

ok, i have a 1987 Force 50 hp outboard, and i have a 10 3/8 X 11 1/2 prop. it is sorta chewed up and looks like one blade could be a bit smaller then the other 2.. however this prop with a light load still performs decent. I have another prop (10 3/8 X 15) that is in PERFECT condtion, but seems to be too big for the boat, low rpms, barely planes out..<br /><br />Could a prop shop re-do the 15p prop to be a 11 1/2, possibly cupping the blades a bit? would this be a good decision to make such a drastic change, or should i just get my 11 1/2 redone.. i ask cause of course so i can keep using this 11 1/2 till the other is ready.<br /><br />Also, where is a good shop to do the work? <br /><br />thanks for all help,<br />jason

I think you would be better off to sell the 15p, and buy another prop that you desire.<br />TWISTING THAT FAR is a bunch, and it WILL NOT run the same as the factory prop.<br />Buy what you want, and sell the other, I think you will be money ahead and happier in the long-run........

As far as redoing the old prop...better check with a metalwork shop - but realize that even they may not get it right and it may never run like new again.<br /><br />Sell your other one on EBay or through the classifieds, then put that towards a brand new 11 1/2 prop. That will be your best bet, in order for you to be satisfied with the end results.<br /><br />Good luck!

really, i was under the impression there were prop shops that had re-doing aluminum props down to a science.. i guess i have been mis-informed<br /><br />jason

A good prop shop can build a prop from scratch.<br /><br />The message here is, that the value is far better if you buy a new. The price on a rebuild this serious will end up pretty close to a new prop but not really deliver the same value.<br /><br />If you take your experience and a tach reading with the 15" at wot, you'll even have the option of picking a perfect dia/pitch.
