Re: Having trouble getting shift cable run through hose back down to bellhousing
1st, with a Cobra never, Oh, I meant, NEVER, remove the inner core wire!!! There is no instruction by OMC, indicating that you should remove the core wire. AND, if you do, the sharp end/edge of the core wire WILL scrape the inner lining of the cable and "bunch" up the teflon liner of the cable. AND, then you'll have difficulty shifting an otherwise good cable..So, just recess the end of the core wire up to the end of the cable. I've seen many people who thrash the cables, housings and stuff on the ground or shop floor, all the time getting dirt, crud and such in the cable opening etc... don't be in a hurry and take your time..BTW, a mercruiser core wire is already removed when you buy it, it's designed to be inserted . 2nd, the shift cable goes into the rubber "tube" from the outside in.... 3rd, there should be installed over the red shift cable, a plastic sleeve. This will allow for the ez insertion (sliding) of the shift cable into the tube. The tube is usually routed behind the power steering cyclinder so it needs to be situated so that it's as straight a shot ,with no tight bends, as you insert the cable (with the plastic sleeve already on the cable.). The cable should already be installed to the pivot hsg when you insert the cable.
