having trouble identifying what year my mariner is

I have looked at several web pages and still cant find what year my mariner is. It is a 40 hp. The model I believe is 40BM, and the number on it is 676 BSooo449 and it was made in Japan. Any help would be nice, Thanks!

I would say it is a 1978 Model
