Having trouble removing the lower unit from a 1968 6-hp Evinrude?

My father-in-law wants to replace the impeller on his 1968 6-hp Evinrude outboard. After removing the lower unit bolts and disconnecting the shift rod linkage the lower unit isn’t dropping. It sounds solid when pulling the lower unit down as if there is something preventing it from dropping. We are 95% sure there is nothing else mechanically preventing it from dropping other than corrosion. If it is corrosion what is the best way to drop the lower unit? Slide hammer? Prying?

There is a pin near the top of the driveshaft pn 381026.

I'm not sure how to release it, but someone will know. Just wait, or do a search.

Pull lightly downward on the lower unit while slowly rotating the flywheel. The mentioned pin has to align with a slot. Once it is aligned, down it will come. Note the position of the pin for reassembly without a hassle.
