I bought an HD Ready TV a few years ago and I want to watch HD football. I currently use Comcast which converts everything to analog. I am wondering if there is a way to pick up local HD broadcasts without renting Comcasts HD boxes. Is there a DVD recorder that might have the correct tuner so my TV will broadcast HD?

We are planning on dropping Comcast soon and I am hoping there is a way to get this tv to do HD.

If you have an HD ready TV, and all you're looking to do is pick up local HD channels, then all you need is a standard TV antenna. Just like the ones we used to use before cable. If you are far away, you might want to look at a "powered" antenna.

Tried that and it did not work. I was told that the difference between HD tv and HD ready tv is the HD ready tv does not have a tuner for HD.

You are correct. Just an antennae won't work for you. You need a tuner. I have heard that some of the older DirectTV boxes have an over-the-air tuner built into them to get local HD channels and you should be able to pick one up fairly cheap on eBay. Or won't one of those DTV converters we were all supposed to get the DTV transition work? They're only like $50 I believe.

Yeah, that sounds about right. The conversion to Digital TV was not a conversion to High Definition TV. The digital converter boxes are NOT High Definition tuners, sorry.

Correct. Brain fart on my part. However I do know the direcTV box idea is HD cuz I have a couple friends that did it.

Re: HD Ready Tv

Thanks for the links guys. It is just what I am looking for. I tried doing a search here on iboat and the first topic was Crappie Recipes. Google was only telling me that it did not have an HD tuner but did not tell me what I need. Next to put up an antenna and get rid of comcast. This will take care of one tv. Need to get two of the hd to analog converters. Everything should be paid for after not paying three months of comcast. Need to wait till the last ESPN Football game is done first.
