Hey everyone
After going through my motor to see if I could figure why it was idling rough I discovered a stripped head bolt. After removing the bolt I noticed it was a bit rusty with some white corrosion. Eventually I got the head and water jacket cover off and the same white corrosion was present on much of the gasket and on several areas of the head and water jacket. I'm suspecting that is hard water depsits from water seeping in through the striped bolt. I can't really tell if any was getting into the combustion chamber, but that certainly would explain the rough idling. While looking at the threads it seems like the threads were sort of peeling off. Was it a common practice to use some type of helicoil or thread kit for the head bolt threads? Lastly, can this be fixed with adding a helicoil or another type of thread repair kit?
