Head gasket Force 50hp

I may be buying a boat with a Force 50 hp motor. The guy tells me it blew a head gasket, he has a new one, but did not have time to put it in. He also said he changed the impeller last year. I don't know anything about boat motors so I'm asking here, What am I looking at as far as other possible damage associated with a blown head gasket? I'll be having a boat mechanic fix the gasket if I get it. Just looking for advice from you guy's. Thanks, Maxxie

once the head comes off, youll find out what kind of shape the motor is in

I would be very leary about buying a motor from this guy. It only takes about 30 minutes to change the head gasket. I would take the head off and inspect before buying. Need to eliminate the possibility of a bad piston, ring or really messed up cylinder any of which could mean having to take the motor apart to have a cylinder re-bored and install a new over sized piston. If he won't let you take the head off, then I'd walk away from it.

Just walk away. You admit you know very little about engines and the potential for abuse is great. There will always be another boat that you can consider. Why buy what is another person's problems.

Yeah, the engine may only need a head gasket, but what if it does need more? You don't need the drama.

I just noticed that you are in Northeast Pa. What kind of boat are you looking to buy? I do know a fellow down this way who may have what you need (depending upon what you want) and I can vouch for him--You will not have problems.
