Just purchased used 60hp jonny(89) Installed brand new water pump impeller & brand new thermostat. The water flow is very strong out the tell tale but the head is overheating not at idle but only at full throttle. Any advice would help.

Re: HEAD OVERHEATING NEW STAT NEW WATER PUMP

When you replaced the impeller, were anyy of the vanes not accounted for? This is a serious question, becuase when an impeller fragments inside the housing, many times, the pieces are picked-up and lodged in the cooling circuit.
Remove the thermostat, and backflush the housing with as much pressure as your hose can give you. Do the same with the pickup tube. If these steps dont work, you may have to remove the exaust manifold and head, and clean out all the ports.
Did you get the exact same replacement for the thermostat?Thikning also could be a temp difference?

Re: HEAD OVERHEATING NEW STAT NEW WATER PUMP

The motor didnt have a thermostat in it when I bought it the old water pump impeller was fairly new no vanes missing. When I took the stat out today on the flush it didnt pee as hard but the water out of the 2 exhaust holes flowed well.I noticed when I took it and it ran hot the water out of the 2 exhaust holes was minimal and schoring hot.How exactly do I backflush head with water hose stat cover off.
