Hello Gents....hope your still around.
One last thing I forgot to mention.....I know this applies to the 70hp of that erra and for the few 6cyl. I've done, I beleive its the same, but I'm guessing....

Intermitent rough idle can be caused by sagged motor mounts which allowed exhaust gases to escape past the mount seals and enter the engine compartment. Especially after being run for awhile.
>>easy to prove > when engine idling poorly, remove hood and restart. If runs OK with hood off, steak is on you!!
>>bad news > if this is the problem, powerhead comes off.....4 new mounts and 2 seals (big money)
good luck.............just a thought.
:( :(

Re: Headcopter and OrangeCrushGT150.......

Thanks Schematic. I actually ran the engine with the hood off and it didn't help. Oh well. I'm pretty sure its the carbs. The boat is snug in its winter storage now, I'm just waiting to start sledding!

I have one other question, keep in mind I'm just getting into this boating thing and know little about engines. Just below the power head there are 2 'ports' on the lower unit just above the water line. Some exhaust comes out of this, as well as some water which kinda spits or sprays out. What is this thing? Thanks.

Re: Headcopter and OrangeCrushGT150.......

We got no snow for sledding....Its been so dry. Hope the walleye are comfortable :(

I beleive those are referred to as exhaust relief ports. If all exhaust was forced to flow down the leg and under the water level and finally out, there would be back-pressure which would effect idle and off-idle operation. These ports allow small amount of exhaust to escape and reduce back-pressure at idle. I've never tried, but it would be interesting to see if idle quality and acceleration is effected if you plugged those puppies off.

Good luck!!

Hi Schematic, thanks for all your help.....

OK, here is the update!

Took my spanner friend out with me and he adjusted the 'mixture' and upped the idle slightly and this baby is now running like a new born kitten!!

I have kept all the info previously posted just in case I even need it again.

Thanks so much for helping and making my first boat experience much better.

Tight lines and WOT!!!

Cheers.
