HI,
I am purchasing a set of used over the transom water injected headers for my 460 jet boat.

I am reading the manufactures website and I don't understand the installation instructions, or rather, I don't understand why to do it this way.

there are 2 water outlets on the thermostat housing, and it says to run a "T" fitting of one of them, and run a line of each side of the T into each header. simple enough. This is where I get confused though: Off of the other water outlet, run that to a plumbers "gate" valve, and then continue the line overboard as a discharge line. The purpose of the gate valve is so you can control at what RPM the water is injected into the headers, if the valve is wide open, water is injected at 3000RPM, if the vavle is 1/3 open, injection is at 1500RPM.
How does this valve control at what RPM water is injected into the headers when there is a direct line to the headers off of the other thermostat outlet?
thanks,
Josh

Re: headers

I don't have the answer to your question Josh, but I do know this much from many years in mechanics.A gate valve is not designed to throttle flow.A globe type valve should be used for this purpose.A gate valve is designed to be open or shut completely.

I'm thinking that the valve would simply control the flow to the headers before the outlet of the T/stat was opened fully.

Re: headers

Sounds a bit odd. Let me know who the manufacture is and I'll have a look at the site, I have used this type of set up a lot over the years and have used various ways to control the flow of water into the headers and it is important not to flood them as that can cause sevear restriction to the exhaust flow but I have never seen or heard of the type that you describe.

Re: headers

I may well be Wrong again,........
But,....
I believe what you've got is known as Dry Stack Headers,........
They're single tubes,.. No Cooling Jacket......

At Idle they Need to run Dry, so the engine doesn't ingest Water.......
And,... as you state,.. More water is injected as the rpms go Up......

And,...... Being a Jet-powered boat,.. You're running the engines Cooling Water from the Jetpump, which is Too High of a Pressure,+ it Needs to be cut back, or you'll start Blowing Gaskets,+ everything else in the Cooling System.........

Hotboats magazine used to have an online forum for Jetboats,...... I don't know if they're still there or not........ Might be worth a Google to See.......

Re: headers

Josh,
Go back to the FAQ section you sited and page down a bit further. Theres a diagram of the hose routing that should clear it up.
