Re: heads

I don't have to deal with salt water so I'm no expert but if you run the engine in salt water and don't flush it with fresh water after using it, then I can see it.
I don't think it should be a high dollar job though.

c/6
Hooty

Re: heads

After 3 years I'd say its time to pull 'em and replace the deflectors. Also I'd look at the deflectors anytime you do a water pump job. Especially if the motor has ever been warm enough to set off the overheat alarm.

The thermostats are right there so..............

Good luck!

Re: heads

hello
yep I gotta go with Dhadley. if you do it as a routine maint action with a trusted tech you wont have maint caused problems. all you have to do is keep it off the bottom and outta the weeds :)
I also recomend removing the heads at 3 year intravels but no one listens till 6 years into it and they have to come off and all the bolts snap off. kinda like needing a water pump only to find the shaft is corroded to the crank. do the maint and life is usually good.
good luck and keep posting

Re: heads

To answer you question in your "echo" post :) , the deflectors are small pieces of rubber hose in the cooling passages that keep the water flowing in the desired direction. As they age they become distorted (dont we all?) and can cause a cooling issue.

Lets stick some new ones in and, as Rodbolt says, do the PM.

Good luck!
