When my motor warms a buzzer sounds under my dash. Is this the heat alarm? I went back to the back of the motor and the block was extremely hot and smoking. Is this a water pump issue? I bought the boat used 3 years ago and never changed the impeller. Where do I start to troubleshoot?

Re: Heat Alarm

That buzzing noise is your heat alarm. When you hear it, shut the motor down immediately! The first thing to check is if you are moving water. Is there water coming ouit of the pee hole or vents at the back of the motor. If so, is it a good stream or spray? If not, check to see if the intake(s) are clogged then pull the thermostat out and see if it is damaged or corroded really bad. replace the thermostat and try again. If still little or no water movement, you probelm is likely the water pump/impeller. Again, shut the motor down if the heat alarm sounds and let it cool before restarting.
