Hi, I recently rebuilt my 2bbl Mercarb with great success. Engine running much better now. My question is, the Seloc manual I have speaks of a heat tube on the choke housing and I have also seen it mentioned here in the forum but I do not see a tube of any sort other than the clear tube from the air horn to the fuel pump. Where should this tube be and what is its function. Engine is a 1987 3.0l mercruiser, Alpha 1 drive. Sorry, I don't have the s/n with me right now but the carb is definately a Mercarb....single idle screw. Btw, the carb had about a 1/4 inch of sludge in the float bowl and one of the tubes at the bottom of the venturi cluster was completely encrusted with hardened sludge. Also, the float level and drop was not set at all. Whoever put that carb together the last time must have been missing a page from the rebuild instructions.lol

You have an electric choke, on that model. The heat tube was used on older models without an electric choke. The tube put hot air into the mechanical choke coil to operate it.
