Hello Everyone,
I would like to know if anyone has had a portable heater instlled on a fishing boat for early morning fishing trips to the delta...I would like to take my wife more often but she often is cold on the water so being the nice guy I am, I would like to install a heater via maybe a cigarette lighter or something. Anyone with some Ideas? It is an inboard mercruiser 120 motor on a 1969 glastron bayflite v164.

You would be better off finding a heater that runs on the hot water produced by your motor, these should come with a 12vdc fan.

Agree. Anything you'd run off 12V probably wouldn't do enough to make it worthwhile.

A 12v DC heater is going to draw a lot of current..you will almost have to be running the motor to keep up with the load of the heater.
On the other hand, the heater tacklewasher shows might be your best bet...

Re: Heater For Boat

When my heater core went out on my old truck, I didn't have the time to fix it right then and there. I bypassed the heater core and stopped in a truck stop and purchased a small cig lighter jack heater. It is pretty small it will set on the dash. I only intended for it to keep my windshield clear so I could see but it didn't do too bad at keeping the whole cab relatively warm. It was only about 20 degrees that morning too. I don't know if this would suit you but they are safe little heaters they are all enclosed and I suppose you could put it under a coat or something if needed. I have let this one I have run with the engine off and haven't noticed a huge power draw. I got this one at a truck stop which I'm sure has elevated prices(I think I gave around 20 - 25.00 for it. I would imagine a parts store would have them too and prob. cheaper.
Those propane heaters that fit on to a BBQ Grill type tank work excellent as long as you can place them so they don't get knocked over or up against something. We use one of them when we gig in the winter. We just strap it to the center seat in the jon boat and the heat it throws is a welcome comfort when it's below freezing. Hope this helps. Dave

I like this heater, I spent soo much on this boat already I would have to wait before purchasing something like this. Thank you all for such quick response.
