Re: Heater

most of us that run in the salt water use heat exchangers. we also use industrial heaters such as would be found in a bus or a front end loader. for those of you with outboards or raw water cooling how about a cataletic propane tent heater ,coleman makes about 4 different models

Re: Heater

From what I understand the raw water cooled boats will produce water at 160 degrees which is only 30 less than my pickup runs at. The cab heater and the accuheat are the same type as you use just a little smaller and easier to fit in a smaller boat.

Re: Heater

I googled around a little and discovered a plethora of heaters operating off the cooling system. BTU's range from 17K-22K with a myriad of mounging choices including ones that simply sit on the floor. Prices run around $200-$240. This is on the project list. Now, what do I do about the ice on the creek!

Re: Heater

Took my son out for youth hunting day shotgun here in Nj sat. He's 16 this the last year he can hunt on youth day.

I didn't feel the cold that bad was 22 but windy felt to me below zero.

Was out about a hour and a half and i look at him sitting next to me with our back to the tree he was shaking so mush, don't think he would have hit a barn.

And he was wearing my carhartt jump suit artic rated that i can't fit in to anymore.

So we came back in.

I have the boat winterized but 5 minutes i can have the plugs back in and in a half hour i could be at the water.

Just waiting for it to get nearer 50 out to go for my last stripper trip.

Got one 29 inchs and had to throw back the 25 incher my 13 year old son caught.

Ain't easy teaching the yougins. That 25 incher i know was a tasty little morsel but got to teach them ethics.

I know theres a giant cow out there with my name on it.

Just one more trip.

My wife said, when you gonna get that boat out of the driveway it's gonna snow soon.

I store in in the woods around back of the house, next to the 16 foot lake boat, utility trailer, that i use mostly for haulin boy scout gear on over night trips, and old trailer for a boat i don't need any more and a jon boat upside down on milk crates.

Anyone need a good used trailer let me know.

But with a 1 1/2 acres you can't see none of them from the back window keeps the wife happy.

You know what they say "a happy wife makes for a happy life".
5 cars and the boat, a little crowded in the driveway.

To the question of heat, most engine mounted water pumps have the heater outlet blocked off or capped.

Simple matter to run a hose to a heater core from a junk car and wire it.

Would be the same as a car.

But you would have to leave the motor running.

I have the heater buddy use it on boy scout winter trips all the time.

Has a carbon sensor will cut it off and a tip sensor. Bye pass the tip sensor
and the heater won't go out cause of the waves.

Simple matter to mount it to the wall or floor.

Safety issue is what keeps me from using it, now but i am thinking about it.

I'm also casting around for a cab encloser but they want thousands.

I have a bimini top but i'll get one eventually.

Re: Heater

You might get your wish...looks like it might hit 50 degrees by the end of the week here in Balto.

The good thing about being on land is that it's a little easier to go inside and get warm.

Heading out in the morning after them striped rascals. Supposed to be in the mid 20's by the time we leave the dock.

A lot of guys are using a Heater Buddy.

Do any good?
I managed to carve my way through the 3/8" thick ice in the creek and troll the mouth of the Magothy today.
Fish alarm didn't go off once.
I found a flock of gulls hovering over a trough, but Nada.
It was so windy, I couldn't keep on course at trolling speed.

Heater Buddy is propane (?). I had waves threatening to break over the bow today. There isn't a shot it would have stayed standing. I've decided I'm not using anything involving fire.

Torn them a new one :)

We got a late start (10 am) out of Breezy. We came out of the inlet and found birds everywhere. The plan was to troll but we ended up drifting and jigging around the birds for the first couple of hours. Not sure how many we caught but we put 2 unders (18-28")and an over (> 28") in the box before we went on the troll for bubba.

We got the boards out and the lines set just in time for the bite (dead high tide) and caught 4 in short order. We kept the 39" and threw 2-37" and a 35" back for another day. We fished until 2:45 and called it a day.

Looks like Friday will be another good day weather wise.

Ya, the Buddy is propane. You can't use it when it's too rough or the tilt sensor will keep turning it off. Otherwise it works well for my use. If I had the hot water option I'd probably go that way as well.

Re: Heater

I plan to give it another go over the weekend too.
The mouth of the Magothy isn't exactly a hot spot. But there were 4' rollers out there this afternoon.
I need to get over the other side - the mouth of the Chester, Love Point or maybe the Bay Bridge.
Glad you did good.

Re: Heater

The reports I'm getting from up that way have the water temps in the low 40's. That's too cold. The magic number is 50 degrees. The water is 49-50 degrees down south.

A lot of the guys have thrown in the towel up that way. They're running down to Bloody Point if not futher before putting down the lines.

Re: Heater

My friend has been trying to convince me to trailer down south somewhere.
Bloody point is a pretty good haul for me from the headwaters of the Magothy.
Maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet. I could put in at the Knapps Narrows (?) and hit the mouth of the Choptank or down your neck of the woods. I assume I could launch at that marina in Rosehaven (?).

Re: Heater

The rivers are getting colder a lot quicker than the main stem of the Bay and the action has for the most part has moved out into the Bay proper.

Just jump on Rt. 3 and head down to the Rod and Reel or Breezy Point Marina. It will take you less than an hour and the fish are right at the front door or at least they where yesterday.

There hasn't been a big blow and it's not been real cold the last couple of days so I'd be surprised if the fish have moved far with that much bait in the area.

Heading out both Friday and Saturday. Let know if you'll be in the area either day and I'll look out for you.

Re: Heater

so you think there are a lot of rockfish still out there?
I caught a 12 lb rock a few weeks ago in the patapsco river.
I might go out friday or sat.

I have some Bass Assassin menhaden lures and of course #17 Tonys.
You think either of these will be okay?

Re: Heater

We where jigging 6" opening night Bass Assassins on 1 1/2 oz jig heads

On the troll we picked up a couple on the daisy chains and the others on tandem 6 oz / 4 oz bucktails. 9? shads on the 6 oz lures and 6? shads on the 4 oz.

Caught fish on both white and chartreuse. Nothing on the spoons...yet ;)

Re: Heater

chiefalen,

What size is that trailer you have, and how much do you want for it. My brother is looking for an inexpensive trailer for a jon boat for fishing. He has been putting it on top of the car, but it gets kind if hard to do by himself, and his son is to small to help put it up there.

.... i just need a shade of heat on them 55* mornings for the type of boating i do. ..

I'm Canadian, so I am not sure that I understand why you need heat when it is already 55 degrees.
That's so toasty we'd almost be turning on the A/C....:)
