i have a flats boat and i have been in about a foot to foot and a half of water. i have the jack plate up to where i can take off but since i am fairly new to owning a boat i usually take off slowly and i can see the water getting all muddy since i am stirring things up. just wondering if i can give it a go and quicker throttle to get up and not stir up so much sandy mud. she's an '18 foot flats boat with jack plate and 150 hp motor.

Re: heavy hand throttle

td is right, but does she a "dig a hole" when you hammer it? Another method you might try but your prop may be too high for this. Turn the wheel and hammer the throttle at the same time. This rolls the hull over and gets the prop even a little higher as she planes off on one side of the hull more than the other. I don't know how to measure this, but it always felt like I planed off quickly while also keeping the prop higher when I was running in skinny water . . .
