Just bought this boat and the steering is stiff how can I grease the control box? This is my first boat and I have only had it out once. Im not to great with Mechanics either. Just want to know how to grease this before I have the marina put in a new cable. They said it was the control box but the only way they tested it was starting the boat and gasing it. Some im not fully convinced its a bad box. Any way please let me know how to grease it and if I can potentially mess anything up while doing this. Also What does a control box due besides put the boat in gear reverse and nuetral? Does it have gears inside that box. All help would be great.

If your steering is stiff..chances are its the cable, and if theirs a zerk fitting on the end that connects to the motor...your in luck, if not...new cable. Behind the dash is where your steering connects to the cable..it may be a "rack" system..like a car or it may be a push-pull type, you can turn the wheel full left to full right while applying grease. For the control box, binding and difficult forward/reverse is 90% of the time worn cables not the control box itself, you can open the unit by backing out the screws holding it to the bulkhead..the box will split in 1/2.grease what you can,but im sure its the cables..not the box. good luck.
