"HEET" as fuel stabalizer

Is the brand name "HEET" ok to use in the tank for my two cycle outboard..Was told it had alcohol in it and not good...Thanks

HEET is, I think, acetone based, not alcohol, patndon.<br /><br />It does nothing to stabilize the fuel. It is intended to mix any water in the tank with the fuel, that is all.<br /><br />A water seperating fuel filter does a better, more reliable job of keeping water out of your carb(s).<br /><br />To stabilize the fuel, use STABIL, or similar product.<br /><br />Good luck.

And if you do use HEET for water, use the red bottle, not the yellow...yellow not for two strokes (as I finally found out this year by reading ALL of the label)!

I believe the regular Heet is methanol and the Iso-Heet is isopropyl. The advantage of isopropyl is that it can melt ice that forms in the tank. It is usually advisable to avoid additives in 2-strokes as some can adversely affect the ability of the oil in the gas to adhere to the surfaces (Stabil is fine). Alcohol can cause even worse problems in that if there is any water in the gas the alcohol will mix with the water and settle to the bottom of the tank where the fuel pick-up is. This mixture will repel oil which will remain on the top mixed with the gas. The alcohol/water mix gets into the carbs and the motor runs without oil. Not a good thing.
