Ive got ( At least I think I have) an LU for a 20hp Merc. Im trying to get the cover nut off. Ive drilled it and broke a bit out. but it looks like its in one piece. Part No 72695 or 72685. Is it a cover nut or is the cover nut and bearing carrier in one piece? I say that cause the bearing carrier part No is 72694 etc. Whats the best site i can input the part No in to find out.

Neither of those numbers were ever Mercury part numbers they are casting numbers and don't cross referance.

Did Mercury on the 20hp ever make the bearing carrier and cover nut as one. or have the two parts just corroded togeather. there seams to be no seperation between the two, no thrust washer.

It should have a nut backed by a stainless steel washer and then the carrier

Thats what I found when I broke the other one apart. I chipped the case apart to recover the parts intact (Case was 3482 and no good to me anyway).
But this seams to be cast as one (bearing carrier and cover nut). May be (Hopefully cause ive chipped a piece out) its just coroded a bit.
