As soon as you get some pics posted, the experts on the forum will come crawling out of the woodwork. So to speak. There is plenty of knowledge on this list and they are happy to share.

Re: Hello All, here is my boat that I am working on.

Here are some more pics. So far I have replaced one of the nipples on the startboard out drive, replaced the shift linkage cable( someone was nice enough to run a spare), Pulled the alternator off the sartboard main and broke a grade 8 bolt in the process( I feel STRONG). I will be Cleaning out the bilge, chasing the crowns nest of wires and cleaning. I got this boat from a guy who traded me for a 1973 33 morgan Out Island. I will be cleaning it up to sell, but I want it ready to go and know whats wrong with it when I sell it.

Interesting! How did you come to trade? What did the previous owner divulge about the condition of the Contessa?

I would have been interested in that Morgan. Was she a center cockpit?

The guy made me the offer, said she was ready togo, the morgan needed work but could be taken out, not the case with the contessa. I am not upset as I really wanted out of the slip fee. but it will be ready togo next weekend. The mains fire up, but I have only had them on a hose. It was really hard to sell a boat with no trailer so I jumped at this one as it cost me nothing to keep. We are working our way out of debt so that was the reason for selling the boat, and I am working ALOT, and college. We had not taking the boat out in over a year. I would go down and start it and do some maintance but that was about it. I think he was sick of the boat, like me with the Morgan, which is a great boat my wife and I lived on it for 6 months. it was not a center cockpit that is the 41.5 OI. He got a good deal, and I got a good deal. I am going to a few hunred bucks into the Contessa, to clean up but thats it if anything is shot when I take it on the sea trail it will be a hard sell to the wife for much more than that. So I will have to be sneaky if a main needs to be replaced. but so far I am happy with the trade. its got a radar that works too, its pretty cool.

I am almost done with buffing out the starboard side of the boat by hand, I guess I am not that smart, with light rubbing compound and a coat of cleaner wax. She is looking good and my shoulders are sore.

Cool. I thought maybe you had the Morgan on CL or had a for sale sign on her.

You might consider budgeting some of what you were paying in slip fees for maintenance and upkeep on your MV. Change the impellers on the water pumps, change the oil in the motors and outboards, get new fuel filters and water separators, check the bilge pumps, etc.

I don't know what it is about a motor boat? If you use it often, it's dependable. If you don't use it often, stuff breaks. A sailboat, not as much. That's just my observation based on my own boats over time.

Are you on the IC? She looks like a comfortable cruiser.

Good luck!

I did have it on CL, The wife and I are trying to get out of debt. So the trade was to get out of the slip fee. but Yes I have budgeted about 300 for PM stuff, and things that needed replacing. I will take it out to make sure it is good to go, and then it will be up for sale. We are in North Florida There is some really cool stuff offshore and I am an avid diver so we will do one trip, after I re-up the towboat US. The goal is to have her in the water in two weeks my in-laws are coming down and we want to show them a good time. I think one more coat of wax on the hull and it will be set, then for the deck to brighten up the gel coat, and maybe re paint the nonskid, and clean up the bright work.

OK, now I'm with you. I was thinking she was a keeper for you, but I understand the get out of debt process. Disregard my free advice on the monthly PM. LOL

What are going to ask for her? Where in north FL? JAX?

I am near Tallahassee, I am going to keep an eye on Ebay, and a few sites to find a fair price, I think I will keep it until the spring. There is a nice trailer too. I am not sure a fair price, anyone have any idea?
