I just wanted to say hello and ask if anybody know where can I get training for marine work.

I'm an autotechnician and have very little experience on marine work.

I own my own auto repair shop but I'm interested on expanding to the marine industry.

I seen a few TV ads for some marine schools. I am sure a Google search will turn something up.

I plan to take some of these classes soon. I am going to get my A&P first (got my BS in Aviation while I was in the military, but not the A&P) and might take the marine classes while I am at it. I got a 60% disability for my 22 years in the AF, so I am going to take advantage of my VA benefits, including having school paid for. I also thought of going to a school like Wyotech. That way, I have land, sea and air all covered. ​

I've been doing autorepair for about 25 years and have very little experience with boats engines. I'd re-builded my own 9.9 mercury from scratch and re-wired a couple old boats but that's about it. I see a lot of potential bussiness in the marine industry.

A&P = Airframe and Powerplant. Required in the aviation maintenance industry. I think 22 years of working on heavy military aircraft is a good start.....

Marine engines are not too difficult if you already are good with automotive engines.​

Marine Mechanics Institute is a pretty good school. It covers a very wide variety of manufacturers and topics. For someone that is very skilled in automotive, some of it would be rudimentary im sure... but you will learn a lot too. It opened the door into the marine industry for me.

In 22 years of working on anything, you usually get pretty good at it. It is a very good start, indeed.

I found working on outboards is a lot of fun. I did nothing but automotive engines for 16 years so I'm pretty comfortable with them and don't represent much of a challenge anymore. The last decade or so I've been diving deep on electrical and electronic diagnostics and with today cars getting more and more complicated marine work seems really simple.
