Impeller job is not difficult. However I would recommend getting a manual for your motor. You will find it invaluable not only for this job but for everything else that might crop up. OEM manuals are by far the best.

Re: Hello, need help on my second boat

i agree on manual. but it is not really a hard job. what year or model is it.

plug seals # place for water intrusion, of lower unit.
Changing lower unit oil

There are 2 straight slot screw on the starboard side of the lower unit. Top is vent plug, bottom, drain and fill plug. ( do not touch Phillips head screw).

Remove the bottom plug, put container under lower unit, now remove the vent plug, while the oil is draining, replace the seals on the plugs BRP part # 311598 or Sierra part # 184248, buy several of these, ( they are a one time use item)

Walmart and many places sell a little hand pump. To use to fill the unit, you insert the tube into the bottom hole, and pump till oil reaches the vent hole. Install the vent screw, then remove hose, install the drain-fill screw, clean up mess.

The screws can be hard to get out, do not mess up the head. You may need to employ an impact screw driver to break them loose.

Re: Hello, need help on my second boat

Already did the oil, need to do the impeller before i put this thing in the water, its been sitting fof 11 years and im afraid the impeller is dry rotted.I have all the bolts out and the lower case dropped about an inch but it will not come out all the way,i dont want to pry it,please help.just looked at the pic of the lower case and it looks like the shift rod might be the hangup.going to go see it now to see the dissconnection.1 hour later ok I got it it was a 10mm bolt right under the bottom carb.all done now,the hardest thing was the linkage bolt.
