Hello all! New to the forums. Greetings!

I've just purchased a new Campion 542 (20 ft) boat with a Suzuki 140 4 stroke. I know nothing about these engines though many told me its a good engine.

I was wondering what your thoughts on Suzuki OB motors are.

Also, what kind of top end speed do you think I can push with an approx. 2300 lb boat (with gear) with the 140? (Stock prop) Here is a performance report from the Campion website, with the Yamaha 115 for what its worth:
http://www.campionboats.com/downloads/Explorer 542 OB SC - Yamaha F115 4-STROKE.pdf

Thanks!

This is our 3rd boat since my wife and I have married, looking forward to getting back out on the water after selling my 1992 Larson 19' Cuddy 3 years ago.

Welcome Ripsnort!! Sounds like you will be covering a lot of ground ,or water that is,in a very short time.140hp on a 2000 lb boat sounds fast, better staple your wig on.I have heard good things on this forum re; Suzuki,Though from people i know and people that work on them here in NY,I have heard only negative feedback. They seem to be very hard to fix and very few work on them here.Charlie

Re: Hello, new forum member

When I hear Champion I think of Bass boats! So I could be all wet! Wouldnt be the first time! 20' Boat, 2300lb, I would figure about 50MPH + - 2MPH Full trim! I do not think that 140 has the torque to hold any more! Maybe 45-50 MPH would be closer! Thats a lot of boat for a 140! Its more than likly rated at 200 HP or better!

If its not a Bass Boat, and more of a off shore type boat, the speed will be much less, 35-40 MPH maybe! Lots of variables!

Oh, and welcome to the forum!!

Indeed welcome Ripsnort.

There's a real good forum here on Yammies and Suzies if you have specific questions about the engine. Check it out sometimes. :D

The manufacturers numbers are usually porked alittle bit, but apparently this boat gets 40 mph at 6000 rpm with the Yamaha 115. I'd think closer to 45-50 mph with the Suzi DF140! Heres to hoping! (Its maiden voyage will be Fort Peck, Montana, lots of distance to cover there. :) )
