need to repower my alum bass boat.looking at a 2001 50 4 stroke high thrust yamaha.any info on these engines?thanks roy

very dependable motors, wont be very fast butt it will push heavy things

High Thrust is for pontooons and other heavy boats. Mercury's version is Big Foot. Neither are appropriate for planing boats in general, although they work. They're just slow. The props are more expensive, too. And since it's a larger gearcase than the conventional model, it sticks further into the water which isn't a good thing in shallow water.
