Hi all, my name is Rose and I just happened to stumble onto this site. My husband John & I just bought our first boat. It is a used ole' gal. She is a 1985 Starcraft Islander 191V with a 140 hp Merc I/O We gave $3000 for her and she came with all accessories, the humminbird fish/depth finder, Eclipse loran gps, ship to shore radio, life vests, bimini cover and full curtain (I think that/s what its called) We took her on an inland lake called Pleasant Hill (about 45 min from us) for her maiden voyage. We plan to take her to lake Erie, probably next year. I don't believe we are "seasoned" enough to go out on the big waters yet!
I was surprised at the size of the cuddy cabin! The first purchase was a port-a-potty. It's easily hidden and there's still lots of room to sit or take a nap. I've read a little about the starcraft boats online and didn't realize what a treasure we have found and hope we will get years of use from her. Kids are grown and it's just the two of us now. Time to have some fun! Are there any specific things (pros/cons) about this boat that we should know.We plan to do some updating this winter, such as new seats (preferably captains chairs , give her new engine cover, interior and a paint job. Here's a pic, though not very good. It was taken with our cell phone camera. Any ideas or hints about this boat would be a great help.
