Re: hello to all fellow starcraft owners

2005 191 Islander purchased New in June as an '05 leftover. We practically stole this boat! We paid an unbelieveably low price because the dealer needed to get rid of this thing off of his floor plan. We absolutely love this boat. It handles 2-4's on Lake Erie very well and the 3.0 liter will troll right down to about .7 without a struggle. She acts a little stern heavy getting out of the hole but am going to put trim tabs on her over the winter to eliminate some of that. Does anyone have any ideas about windlasses or anchor pulleys for these boats? If you do please reply.

Re: hello to all fellow starcraft owners

This is my 1st attempt at posting. Fortunately, I know a lot more about boats than computers.

This is (was) my 1988 Starcraft Islander 22. It was powered by a 1988 Johnson 140 hp V-4 & topped out at just under 40 mph. The boat was rated for up to 240hp (outboard version). I used the boat mainly for over- nighting, & 95% of its use was in salt water - Tampa Bay/Gulf of Mexico. I added trim tabs (Bennett hydraulics), full instrumentation, stereo w/ amp/equalizer & 4 speakers, VHF & CB radios, fishfinder, Richie compass, bimini top, porta pottie, & even carried a camp stove & propane gas grill on board. I rigged it so that I could drop & retreive the anchor from the cockpit, which kept my fat butt off the foredeck in sloppy conditions.

I loved the boat - I've had 4 Starcrafts - but my biggest gripe is wood rot. Every one of them experienced it. Starcraft needs to use PT lumber instead of marine plywood, or even better yet - composits. I hope the photo makes it w/ this posting. If it doesn't, perhaps one of you good sailors will tell me how to do it. The photo was taken at a boat ramp in the Everglades.

1978 18' Super Sport Bowrider w/ Johnson 85 of similar vintage.

Working on a re-flooring project this January. And, while I have the floor up I'm replacing a few rivets. So far, so good.

This is my 1991 Starcraft Eurostar 171 FS. It is in perfect condition and has a reliable underpowered 3.0L Mercruiser.

Re: hello to all fellow starcraft owners

hello all. I traded a pick-up truck for a 1985 21' Islander. I was on the boat a few years ago for a picnic run up along the croton/hardy dam. Had a great time. Currently, the boat is sitting on an EZ loader trailor alongside my garage. I really dont have the time or money that it takes to own a boat, sooo...If someone is looking for a good deal I may be able to make them a great deal! Also will consider a swap, whether it's a camper, motor home, or vehicle....or whatever...I'm pretty flexible. I just cant bring myself to take it in for scrap. The reality is just this - I have a well built, good quality boat, that I wont use at this time in my life, and would like to see someone that can use it for it's intended purpose.

Re: hello to all fellow starcraft owners

I just became the owner of a 1972 14' Semi-v hull. I beleive it is a Sealite. I can not find a weight limit or hp plate any where on the boat. The boat came with a 9.9 hp sea king. I plan on putting in a floor and carpet no decks. I would like to find out some more info on this boat. Can't wait to grt oit on the water this weekend for some crappie fishing. This boat is perfect for small restricted lakes and back coves of the bigger lakes.

Re: hello to all fellow starcraft owners

Most boats like that have a max rating of 15hp. The 9.9 should push it fine. I don't recommend adding wood floors to this size boat. Adds too much weight. I have a similiar boat, where I added rubber truck bed linner between the bench seats. It has little rubber nipples that keep it just enough off the aluminum to allow water to drain. I also put holes in it so water doesn't pool on top. It cushions your step, not as slick as the alum, and makes a great sound deadener, especially if you tend to drop allot of jig heads, like me. It is also removable to wash the sand and dirt that collects underneigth over time.

I have a 1986 16 ft alum. with 1992 johnson 88 special . This is the second one I have had just like it year and length. I LOVE THIS BOAT! I have been offshore when the waves kicked up to 8-10 ft and this boat got me in safe and sound!!
Can't say enough about the safety of this design!!! HAPPY starcraft owner

Re: hello to all fellow starcraft owners

Here’s mine, just got it a couple of days ago, it's all original, has always been garaged, and is pristine, everything is as it came when new, I even have the original canvas boat cover and the original starcraft factory flag and mast for the nose. Still nervous about pulling it up to the doc for fear of scratching the hull, it’s my first boat, so I have a lot of learning ahead of me. don't know what moodel it is, all the paperwork I have on it just lists it as a starcraft, it's a 1978, and it's 18 feet 3 inches long
