i have just recently got my first boat it is a 1963 holiday with an 1964evinrude starflite 75 had to put a new floor down and clean the carbs but have had it on the water about a dozen times and so far so good runs alot better than i ever thought a 44 year old boat would run had it up to 38 according to a hand held gps

that's not bad for speed, I checked mine with a hand held gps and got 46 MPH but it's also got a speed senser in the depth finder and also a speedo in the dash, and they all read differently, the speedo reads right about 40'ish, and the depth finder read something like 43, so I'm not sure how fast it is.

from what i understand the gps is pretty accurate but who knows my in dash only goes up to about 12 and stops so for now i will trust the gps the guy i bought it from never did anything to it in the 13 years he owned it so i believe it is probably getting a little tired might rering it over the winter just to try to avoid any summer problems but still not sure since it has been starting and running as smooth as it does

Stuart.. that's unreal. I can't believe the original condition of that boat. It's really nice to see what one looked like when it was new. If you're worried about taking it to the dock and putting it in the water.. just let me know and i'll do it for ya. Can you post of pic of the starcraft flag? Just curious what it looked like.

I'll take a pic of the flag, and get it posted, I've had a few looks when out on the river with the boat, I'll admit, getting close to the dock makes me nervous, I don't want to get any scratches in the paint, I have yet to see another one as clean. I've used the boat quite a bit since I got it and it runs flawlessly, and as surprising as it may sound, for a rivited aluminum boat, the hull doesn't leak any water at all, it's pretty sound, I think I did ok for my first boat

on a side note, I've been looking for a 12 foot aluminum boat to use the 9.9 horse trolling motor on, and last night, someone posted an ad on craigslist for a 12 foot boat trailer that is really clean, with bunks, side guides, new tires including the spare, new axe, hubs and bearings, plus new lights and wiring, and they dumped it for 50 bucks, I'm going to pick it up tonight. it's a really nice trailer and well worth the 50 bucks I think.

there's no way I would have been able to convert my little 4x8 flatbed utility trailer into a boat trailer for 50 bucks, so this trailer will work out just fine

with the 12 foot trailer, I'll have everything I need for a little boat except for the boat itself, I've got the motor, oars, life jackets, trailer, fuel tank, fire extingusher, depth finder, anchor, 12 volt deep cycle marine battery, and nav lights. I just need to find a little 12 foot hull to put it all on. I'm watching craigslist real close until one shows up, I should be able to get one pretty cheap. the little 9,.9 evinrude that came with the starcraft looks brand new and has less then 20 hours total running time on it, plus it's an electric start, so finding a little 12 foot boat to put it on should make for a pretty sweet setup I'd think

I guess I'm a newbie, I get to pick up my 1966 Aluminum 18' i/o Starcraft in two days. It needs some work on the interior seats recovered/ replaced, a good cleaning, 4 cyl. turns over but didnt start ( has sat for 3 yrs). Nice dual axle tilt trailer.(needs tires). will post pics in a few days. I got her for a steal.

Being new to the forums one of the first things I wanted to do was to check out the other Starcrafts. I know this thread has been dormant for a while but seeing the pics of others is great.

I'm also a new owner of an older Starcraft. Mine is a 1969 Offshore V with 120hp I/O Mercruser. I purchased this boat from the second owner. It has always been garage stored and has only 625 hours on the engine. From what I have been told it is all original. My reason for purchasing this boat wasn't for the "classic", but more for the practical. I have been looking for something somewhat lightweight, yet large enough to take my family of six in.

I have a 1974 18' Starcraft Offshore that I spend all last summer rebuilding well three weeks ago I sold my due to low compression in the motor and bought a fiberglass runabout to replace it, long story short I have already sold the fiberglass and bought a 1973 16' Supersport that just needs minor work, I guess I just cant stay away from these great old boats.

mbrook - I have the same boat, only mine is a 1973, and ony had 188 hours when I got it last fall. It is a Super Sport, not an Offshore, unless they changed model names. When I got mine, I asked questions about performance, fuel, etc. and got no useful responses, as most folks seem to have outboards on this model. I hope this info is helpful. My '73 performs well with three adults aboard. That is the most I have carried so far. With 3 adults, max speed around 35 mph, and with just me, about 38. The comfort zone seems to be 22-30 mph. I have tried 3 different props. It came with a 14 1/2 x 17 aluminum, which was too little pitch, and allowed the engine to way over-rev (approx 5k). I bought a 14 1/2 x 21, which works fine for a light load, and tops out around 4k, but won't pull a skier very well, and probably wouldn't do well for a family of 6. I now have a 14 1/2 x 19 stainless, which seems like a pretty good compromise. It tops out a little high (approx 4.5k) but has a great hole shot and will probably perform adequately with a heavier load as long as I watch the revs. The 120 Mercruiser will tell you when the revs are getting too high as the valves will really clatter. I just had it out for a 34 mile run, cruising about 22-27 mph, as measured by the gps, and only burned 3.9 gallons of gas, which makes me very happy. My big boat burns about 2/3 mile per gal.

In choppy water and when encountering wakes from large boats on the Chesapeake Bay, it feels like it is going to beat itself to death, but it seems to hold up to the abuse pretty well, though not very enjoyable under those conditions. I have taken some pretty hard slams, with no bad consequences so far.

Just bought this 16' 1968 Starcraft with a 1963 40Hp Johnson 2-stroke and trailer for $750. (The guy without the shirt is the seller who was very hard to get hold of once he had the cash in hand). Not sure what the model the boat is -- I'm looking into it. If anyone knows, I'd appreciate it. Leaks like a cheese grater, but it looks like leaky seams and rivets at worst. The motor runs nicely, but one of the stabilizer fins is broken on one side, so it doesn't plane out as well as it should. It's a fixer upper. I plan on undoing the cob jobs of the past owners and remaking some of the parts.

Hello i have a 1977 Starcraft American 18. She's an inboard outboard bowrider. I have owned this boat for 1 year. It came with many of its original papers from the sale and instructions booklets. It runs exellent and looks good in the water
