Hello,
I cannot get my helm control to go foward, just neutral and reverse. Dropped the lower unit to replace impeller then this problem started. Was fine before. Any ideas? Thanks, Glenn

Re: helm control

I have seen this before on the forum - do a search and I'm sure you'll find some giudance. If I recall correctly, it is easy to throw the linkage out a bit when r&r-ing the lower leg for such things as changing impellows.

You dropped the LU and rotated the shift shaft. Get both the helm and the shift shaft on the same page and you'll be fine. You have a shop manual, don't you?

Ok, I got the helm control into forward, now it wont go back to neutral or reverse. Seems even more locked up, very tight. Ideas? Thanks again

You need to isolate where the problem is. Is the lower unit currently installed?

Label the throttle and shift cables at the powerhead then temporarily disconnect them. Test your helm controls again & see if they work.

This is easy... if you put the motor in forward before you lower the foot, then install it the same way. If you happen to move the shift shaft, simply, turn the shift shaft to the left (counter clockwise) looking down on it. That way you know for sure, that the prop shaft will ratchet in forward and be locked both directions in reverse.
