thanks for your reply boatist well flywheel key is ok "checked it"i noticed that fuel was pouring out the throat of the carburator and i mean pouring out so took off carb. and adjusted the float per manual level with the base and when turned 1 and 1/8 to 1 and 1/2 of inch form hanging position i am going to let it sit for a day will let you know what happens thanks again

ok tried to start it today would not start intially so i squirted some gas in the cylinders SURPRISE!!! it started but would not idle it revved pretty good but when i let go of the tiller handle it would shut off i was able to start it again a couple of times but it was tricky "had to have one hand on the throttle one hand on the starter rope when i pulled it i had to get it just right" need help on what could be the problem.also there is a knob on the side of the motor that say's idle slow/fast but when i let go of the tiller handle it just goes all the way back and the motor dies thanks again for your help

Caldog<br />Looks like you are getting close. To start with I would turn the knob on the side as fast as it will go. This knob is idle speed adjustment. If it will start and run then you can adjust the carb mixture. The knob on the front of engine marked lean or rich. Turn knob one way and see if idles better. Need to turn slowly as motor takes a few strokes before change gets into the cylinders. With the knob pointed straight down will turn half a turn in each direction. If need more adjustment can pull off knob and recenter. Final adjustment should be after motor warmed up. When find the best setting pull knob off turn arrow straight down and put back on. Then can adjust idle speed with knob on port side to speed you want.<br /><br />Throttle should stay where you put it but this has been a problem on some engines. No adjustment I know of but did see something about shimms to tighten it up. If I can find I will add link. well guys i am getting close but i am having trouble tring to get it to idle good. some one told me that maybe the reeds were worn out i am wondering as i have gone this far if it would help to change the reed valves and would that help it.

caldog,<br /><br />I'vegot a '65. Mine has a different ignition then your NEW one.<br /><br />Confirm the position of the stator cam plate when the throttel is in the idel position. The roller on the carb throttle should line up with the mark on the stator cam plate. On the '66, this can be tweeked by a knurled knob at the pivot of the tiller<br /><br />Reeds might be a problem but before you replace, look at the carb again. Pump up the primer bulb REAL hard and check for fuel leaks on/around the carb. Mine had a leak in the float valve seal. Just about drowned at idel.<br /><br />Good Luck<br />HAVE FUN!

thanks Klondike7, mine has an arrow on the cam plate so you are saying when it is at idle the arrow and the roller should line I'll try that first thanks found out the reeds cost about 40 bucks but i'll try your suggestion first
