I have an Evenrude 50hp motor. I am having a problem with the power pack. I have replace one already, this is the second one going on #3. It will run fine when you run it slow, but when you go up on throttle it burns the pack out and the motor will not run. Has anybody else had this problem? If so how did you fix it? Thanks, Gary Fulller EDIT: email addresses not allowed. (TD)

Re: HELP!! 1994 Evenrude 50hp power pack

Update:
Ok here's what I found out. Check the condensor, and the voltage regulator. to do the voltage regulator you need to first check the voltage of the starting battery without the motor running. Then start the motor and see what the voltage is. should be different as the motor chould be charging the battery. If the condensor is going out that could cause a spike and burn out the power pack. The voltage regulator could do the same if it is going bad.
Not sure whats going on on mine yet, but thought I would pass this bit of info down. Gary

Where did you get this information? This ignition system is a magneto cd.

Well, Yes it does have a magneto, I know this. Do you have any ideas what could be wrong with this thing. Power packs are getting a little expensive. Thank you for your help. Gary

Well the third power pack has worked. #2 pack seems it was bad from the dealer. Put in #3 and cleaned all the connections and checked the voltage. Put it in the water and it runs great. Gary
