Help 2000 4.3 mercruiser

I am going through drive lube like water,4 hours my resevoir is about empty.What could be the problem? The place I bought the boat will preasure test it for nothing,but he also said if it was because of fishing line I would have to pay for it.What is he talking about? Where would the line be? I cant see any. This is my first I/O so im kind of clueless about this stuff.Any and all input is much appreciated. Thanks Woz

You have a leak some place that needs fixing. fishing line most times gets wound up behind the prop and goes into the seals.

No matter what the cause, you will be paying for it - there is a bad seal that needs replaced.

I would remove drive and check for oil in the bellows, if dry then pressure test drive by itself.
