Hi to every one! I run 12 foot with a 5.0 HP Mercury.
This is a very good motor and runs well. The inner 2.5 litre tank and my additional external tank can run for days without problems. I would like to download a proper manual so I can do proper maintanance. Here are the numbers I see under the cover:

On black top sticker: 37-818637-2, next is a Tested as: 705098, on the carb: 788C MA00, and on the round silver plug: OG 712271. So how do I get the year out of these numbers? My estimate is that it could be about 5 years old (2001?). I got a four stroke manual with it, but this is a 2 stroke with 50:1 mix. I would appreciate any help. Thanks MrGrey1.

Welcome to iboats!

The serial # should be on a plate on the swivel arm or stamped into the engine block. I'm not finding anything with those #'s.
You can looke here if you find it:

Thanks for trying... However, the only other things I see: Key-Hin Made in Japan on the carb housing and FF5 Inside the flywheel. One faint Block number:IG 393 8023
(side of the block -spark plug outlet). There is nothing on the handle. MrGrey1.

Mr Grey,

I think that you found the S/N. It should be the number on the silver plug - "0G712271". I can't tell you exactly what year this is but you can go to
http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com and enter your S/N to get a list of parts and manuals available from Merc. Your service manual part number would be 90-7308R02.

I think you are pretty close with the year...somewhere around 2001.

Cheers,
