I have a 91 Johnson Faststrike 175 and I started it up for the first time in the backyard after the winter with the hose and muffs connected to the water intake. Started the engine and water started coming out all over the place. Meaning little holes on the bottom leg, the seam where the bottom of the leg connects to the engine. Can anyone tell me what happened and what do I need to do to fix it. Your help is very much appreciated.

Re: HELP! 91 Johnson 175 Leaking water.

If you cracked the housing it may have been caused by water freezing in the lower unit over the winter, if it wasn't drained properly. Keep in mind there are many drainage holes in the lower unit that you may have been seeing water coming out of.

You can have housing cracks welded, I believe.

What you describe is perfectly normal. Don't worry about it.

.....but the water is coming out the seam where the lower gear case bolts onto the engine. Not a lot but it is coming out.

There's nothing in there to be hurt. Its pretty common for water to come out there. The newer motors even have biult in slots there for water to come out.
