I have a 2001 90hp 60 degree Johnson. I am still running the VRO fuel pump on the motor (which was replaced last year). I have recently started burning alot of oil in my fuel mixture, roughly about 1 1/2 gallons of oil to 20 gallons of gas. I listened to the oil regulator on the fuel pump and it is clicking about every two seconds at idle. The motor loads up bad at idle, smoking bad, but will run fine at W.O.T.. I am assuming that the fuel pump has gone bad again, but am asking for other opinions or suggestions if there might be another possibility to look at first before I spend another $300 on a fuel pump...

Sounds like you may well have an air intrusion in the fuel system somewhere.
Just my initial thoughts though.
Give us a little more history

Re: HELP: Burning way too much oil...

Its been running fine, but over the last couple of weeks, its been burning a little more oil than usual, but this last weekend, is when it really started to burn the oil really bad. Couldnt keep it idleing without it chocking out, but like I said, once it was opened it, ran fine, but still was using way too much oil. Pulled the air screen off the front, and you could see raw oil sitting in the carb throats.
