little background...
1986 Bayliner Capri 1600 w/ 85 HP Force
bought this boat about 2 months ago.
did typical maintence on motor (clean carbs, spark plugs, check timing, compression..etc..)
added tell-tale to motor
went to change the lower unit oil (at first, could not find drain plug)
found the drain plug...sorta...P/O must have stripped out or lost the drain plug, so filled the opening with epoxy and ground it smooth an painted it.
i carefully ground it out with dremel and had it cleaned out down to the the housing.
tried to retap the hole for a new plug (couldn't get it tapped, so i temporarily filled the hole with RTV sealant)
the oil that came out was very clean, not even a hint of any water in the oil.
put new oil in.
boat has been running great (few little tweaks here and there on idle mixture screws, carb linkage)

now the problem...
had the boat out today for about 1 hour...when i got it back on the trailer and was securing everything down, i noticed a small puddle of milky fluid on the ground right below the lower unit drain plug. Obviously i need to fix my temporary drain plug. but what/where should i be looking at for signs of water intrusion??
have not pulled my "drain plug" to see just how milky all the lower unit oil is.
motor has than 10 hours on it since i changed the fluid.

any insight would be helpful...what gaskets seals need replacing...water coming in through prop maybe...again, anything you can inform me of would be helpful

thanks,
Dan

The most common cause of water intrusion into the gearcase is bad gaskets under the drain and vent plugs. They must be replaced every time the plugs are screwed in. The gaskets are crushable use once gaskets.

In your case it is probably the temporary "plug".

Drill it out and install a TimeSert. Then use a new plug and new gaskets every time.

Only after you have that solved will you be able to know if the propshaft seals are leaking.
