Re: Help debunk a myth

As a new boat owner with all the work that is to be done when it is from the 60:s I can say,
I was happy when I got the boat and I for sure will be even more happy when the day comes me and my daughter is on a picture like MRS's. I'm also pretty sure that I will hate to sell it since it will be totally restored when I'm done with it.

Here is the best thing:
If you have ever built your own boat, the first time you put it in the water. Happy and scary at the same time. I got the feeling after I restored an old 17' seagoing kayak; I found the wooden frame out for the trash, researched it, fixed (and made some) woodwork, skinned the bottom (roof membrane) and top (canvas) and set sail!

Happiest day was last Sunday heading down to JB Boonkdocks for lunch and it's December and 80 degrees out. If I can do this and have those same temps in February I'll dig this thread up and repost!!! :D:D:D

Re: Help debunk a myth

the saying that hits home for me is

A boat is a hole in the water you just pour money into.

I don't agree with any of those sayings. Boating for me is something I really enjoy, otherwise I wouldn't do it. I've sold a few boats and was always a little sad. I think things are pretty much a personal perspective. Me, I love boats and can only imagine being glad to sell one if it meant I was getting another I like better!

My best days are any days I can go boating, the worst days are those days when I can't!

Re: Help debunk a myth

My very first post on this forum... (with an old account i had) about 6 years ago.

My general question on the boat i was getting:
"I am new to this boat, any tips?"

Answers i received:
"Its a hole in the water"
"Stay away!!!"
"make a budget and times it by 10"
"Run and dont look back"

I am happy i didnt listen to any of it, i am happy i stuck it out and am still here on these forums too.
Since then i have had great days, met lots of nice people from these forums, and expect many more great days to come!

Boats are high maintenance, just like many hobbies. Like keeping a salt water fish tank for example... Husbandry is involved, if your not willing to dedicate time to it, you will not be happy with it.

Re: Help debunk a myth

My happiest day hasn't happened yet. I'm still trying to catch that elusive Striper.

I do know that stripers actually exist, because I've seen them at the fish counter in the grocery store.

It's especially annoying because my boat model is the Seaswirl Striper.

I think the boat model should have been "Oyster Toadfish". I've caught lots of them.

Boats are llike women.
I does not matter what condition she is in when you get her. but you will love her, care for her and work with her, untill you are both happy with what you have. and be sad when she is gone.

Always said I am glad I didnt have girld, I couldnt be a dad of a teenage female.

at least not in a country that doesnt allow weapons to be out on display.

but this picture sums up why I would love to have a daughter. till she is 13-14.

Do not worry them girls can take care of them selfs. At least ours did that is my grandbaby and she loves papa,s boat and fishing just will not touch them when they are alive. But when girls do need help we step in to do what we need to do.

zymox, that day will be here before you know it and it is the Best feeling in the world take a camera every time you guys are out. Here is the other reason why I love this stuff.

Anytime someone states the myth to me, I tell them if they are happy the day they sell their boat they are not a true boat lover.

From the posts on this thread, I'd say our fellow forum members are definitely boat lovers.

Re: Help debunk a myth

Great thread. I think the bigger myth is "the worst day on the water beats the best day at work." I've been out on the river in my tinner wandering if I'm gonna make it back home once a storm brews up out of nowhere... And lots of other bad things can ruin your day out there. But don't get me wrong, given the choice, most of the time I'd rather be fishing! :)

I would argue that "The worst day on the water" might not have been "Fun at the time" but it was definitely more memorable, exciting and adventuresome than ?The Best day at work?.
You will re-tell the story about how the wave were breaking 20 feet over the bow, you had to dodge three waterspouts, and you ran out of gas just as you made it to shore, a dozen times more than the story about how you closed the deal at work and used the commission to buy the new boat and the truck to tow it. (Note : The waves get bigger, the waterspouts get closer and more numerous, and the gas gets lower on each re-telling.) ;)

My happyist day is just being out on the water, I think my saddest day was when I saw how the new owners treated 2 different boats that I had lovingly restored. I know I shouldnt think that way but it hurts a little.

I had one that fit this slogan. It became too big a boat to handle after our son moved out of town to continue his career and my wife couldn't manuver it nor keep being the anchor winch offshore. The two current boats we have are perfect and fit the other slogan, best day is the next time out. We fish the rivers, streams and flats now.

after reading this one, I really feel like it hits home.

However, I am not sure about the gone part yet.

That's so true. Let me tell you about this fish I battled and caught (both lies :)
So there I was...
