I have a 1976 1978C eska 9.9. I am getting it ready to see the water for the first time since I have owned it. My question is, is this thing supposed to have a thermostat? the place I have been getting parts from shows a listing for it and I had them send me one. but when I pulled the cylinder head cover off.....no thermostat. I believe this is the first time the cover has been off ever, but not sure? also what is the best procedure for flushing the cooling system to ensure there is no blockages?

thank you much

is this place and the parts you ordered? me thinks from looking at 1976 Ted Williams 9.9 diagrams that there was no thermostat because no part no. is givin, chances are your thermostat was for a 9.9 made by Chrysler Outboard or could be the rare Eska 9.5 of which I have never seen.

best way is to visually inspect the intake at the foot for pieces of impeller stuck below the waterpump then the water tube and up through the base plates and a good flusing of the water jacket, you will need new gaskets, I have a 7.5 with the same lower as the 9.9 and I had to use a wire hook and hemostats to remove old chunks of impeller, they like to get stuck in the water inlet and are hard to see.

What do you plan to use for a new head gasket? I have not been able to source one to date but I have yet to ask Eskaman2008 he may know

Re: HELP! eska cooling

I have a template that I got from a guy who Is working on manufacturing his own ignition modules for these engines. so I will make my own gasket. the impeller came out in working condition, so there is no missing pieces. I just want to give the motor a good once over before it goes back into service. it has sat for 5+ years. I got it from my father in law who was not using it any more. It runs great though!
