Help!! Finally finished

I have just finished a huge rewiring and stereo install on my boat. I have 4 amps. I hooked all 4 remote wires (blue) directly to the remote on the cd player/head unit. I realized there is not enough power here to turn them on. I know i need to separate the amp remotes and hook two of them up to a diffect wire from the head unit to have enough power to turn them on. I think it may be the yellow wire from the head unit. PLEASE HELP. Trying to take her out tomorrow! Everything is wited correctly except this little (but major) problem.

Do you have the specs on current draw for the amps' switching circuits? I don't imagine it's very high. The yellow wire from the head unit is usually the unit's memory positive lead i.e. hooked to an unswitched battery positive source. Not where you'd be getting the switching signal for the amps.

Hopefully mark1905, the stereo guru, will be along to help.

I believe I have to put in a relay. Is this what i need?? Is there a quick fix?

Yes, it appears that you're going to have to put in a simple Bosch style relay in order to make it work. That is not the type of relay you need though.. you need one that looks like this: 1381.11847.600x400.RLYBSCH.jpg Any auto parts store has them..

In some older or cheaper stereos, there is not enough current available on that single turn on wire to make everything work. You have definitely verified that this is the case by disconnecting some of the amps down the line until it works, right? Do NONE of them work or only some? How are you connecting them?

In a pinch.. just to get you on the water today if you don't have the time to run and get a relay and deal with this now, you could always just hook up a jumper wire straight off the battery or a switched ignition source from under the dash. - AS AN EMERGENCY DRIVEWAY HACK JOB just for now to get you playing music until you have time to do it right.. ;)

If you truly don't have enough current out of the blue/white stereo wire, then you'll need to wire up a relay that has a straight 12V+ battery connection for constant power, and then use the blue/white wire as a trigger on that relay to make it switch that battery 12V+ to your amps as the turn on signal.

Here is a great diagram that shows exactly how to wire that relay. In this diagram, the fog lights would be your amp turn on output. The switch input would be your blue/white wire from the head unit. It is advisable to use a small fuse when coming off of the battery for safety. Use female spade connectors to attached the wires to the relay.

Thx for the help. Ended up not taking the boat bc didn't want to do any rush work on the boat. I am puting a relay like you are talking about in. Would this one be fine? I had west marine order it. Is there any advantage to a marine one?

Which relay did you order? The one you listed? If so, that's entirely wrong. What you listed is an ACR which is used for charging/activating multiple batteries.

If you're talking about the Bosch relay, I'm unaware of any differences between a standard and marine..and actually this is the first I've heard of a marine Bosch relay. I would just drive down to your local auto parts store and pick one up for $4.

This is the one I ordered. Is this legit in terms of waterproof? I have everything marine grade in my boat so I am looking for things that will last. I picked up one that works from an autoparts store and will temporarily install it to make sure this is my only problem. I guess Im asking if this is even worth replacing my autoparts store one with?
Thanks again,

Yeah, that's fine. The local auto parts store one is all you need. Without ever having seen a "marine" Bosch relay, I can almost bet that there is no difference between that and an standard automotive one. Both are sealed units.
