89 Sea Ray with mercruiser 3.0, Trying to change the fuel filter in the fuel pump and can't seem to find the correct one.

The engine serial # according to the spark arrestor is OC459989 I got a new one and it is much smaller than the original.

There are numbers on the fuel pump, looks like A-2210, the number on the old filter is 30-135S It says Carter on the pump,

The bowl on this pump is much bigger than the new filter. Is there another filter that fits?

There is also a series of numbers on the starboard side of the engine block 2770081 / 221 / 88. Not sure what these numbers are.

Thanks for all the help.

Sounds like you need the older style mercruiser 35-49088 or sierra 18-7860 available here on iboats.

That's a fram number that you have and you can pick up an equivalent at an auto parts store.

Thanks for your quick responses! I checked out the links and here is what I found. The "new" design looks like what I have, with the bowl underneath. This what I ordered before and it was too small. I have ordered the "old" style using the i-boats # marc c posted given me. The diagram shows the old style with the bowl on top. I wonder if these pumps can be mounted either way. Anyway, waiting on the part now. Will let you know if it fits.

How about the #s stamped on the side of the block, any thoughts what they are?

The number you quoted is the same type of filter I use in my "old" style pump with the filter bowl that faces up.
The pumps are made by the same company so perhaps the filter bowls are interchangeable.

As far as being able to mount the pump up or down the old style needs to be up.
As far as I know the new style is supposed to face down.

If you install a separate water separating filter you won't have to worry about that filter.

Yes you can.
Some people run both.
There's also a filter in the carb inlet.

I'm with Marc, if the pump filter you ordered doesn't fit, I wouldn't worry about installing one in the pump since you have the water separating fuel filter. Just put the bowl back on with it's gasket and call it good.

I got the new filter and it fits. It is funny how the bowl is on the bottom, yet, is the size of the bowl on top.

The bowls must be interchangeable between the old and new style pumps. At least it works.

Thanks for the help.
