Hello,,,,,,,,, I'm new here...........

anybody got a suggestion on a Good Cruising Prop for my 26' Suntracker Party barge? It has a 3.0 Mercruser IO,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I'd like to keep as much top end as I can while still being able to carry a load of passengers (8 to 10) when necessary.............

Should I go with a four blade?

What Diameter and Pitch?

It comes with a 16D by 14P..... but its bent up and I think the hub is warn out....

thanks in advance. :)

You may be able to have the prop repaired both the blades and the hub and it may be cost effective on that size prop.If you get it fixed and get us your performance specs we can tell if a prop change is in order. Then you can keep the repaired prop for a spare.
You'll need to remind us of the year, size of motor, boat, and prop size.
And your rpm and speed, best by gps.
Otherwise just get the same size for the new prop.
Its nearly impossible to select a prop without some sort of base line or someone familar with the exact setup, especially with a pontoon.

OK,,, I got the info you asked for............

2006,,, 26' Sun tracker with a 3.0 (135hp) Mercury IO and an Alpha One out drive,,,,,, Prop 16D 14P

RPM's (at WOT) 4500

Top Speed 23MPH (GPS) with 30 gallons of gas and two people

I'd like some more out of the top end if possible,, and still be able to cruse at 6-8mph with a boat load of people.......... I don't think we will ever tube or ski behind it,,( we have a ski boat we will use for that)...... And I'm not asking for a drag boat either,,, I would just like to pick up 2-4mph at top speed......:D

Thanks again for your advice

With 6-8 people aboard and a prop with a pitch change to 18-20, you will see a slower speed. That prop that you have is made for pushing a barge, you won't much speed difference with 2 or 8 people on board.

Anyway do you really want to scare the hell out of your guest, a 26' barge moving 23 mph in quite fast. And this is from a guy who drives a tritoon.

Getting 2-4 mph on any boat that is at or near its top speed is unlikely getting 2 to 4 out of a pontoon is impossible. If you skin the bottom you might get a mile per hour.If you add one of those "belly boosters" you might get that 2 to 4.
