Ayuh,... From your Other Thread,...
As for the fuel tanks,... Ya just gotta LOOK.... All hulls are so different...
Follow the hoses... removing the tanks might be possible, or Not...
Ya Gotta LOOK..

Re: Help flushing out my gas tank

on some boats in the 70s the builder puts a check valve in the pickup line
elbow at the tank

I have seen them act up

all boats are different - take the tanks out if you can and clean them..
good time to replace the sending unit and hoses if it is that old..

Re: Help flushing out my gas tank

A lot of boats have an anti-siphon valve installed....if it's questionable, replace it, they're only about $15.......

If you want to clean out your tank, remove the fuel gage sender.

Then put the bow up a little and use a clear piece of vinyl hose (1/2'' or 3/4" diameter) and start a siphon using collection tanks on the ground. Use a helper to move the hose from full containers to empty the empty ones....

Use the siphon to "vacuum" out the tank and you'll get most or all the water and debris in the tank. (by the way.......don't use a "wet-or-dry" vac unless you want an explosion!!!.....yes, it's been tried!!!!!)

The higher your tank and the lower the fuel receptacles he better the "vacuum " works! (you'll need a long hose for that.....)

Also remove the fuel pick-up (with the screen on the end) so you can inspect it for full or partial blockage......

Be sure to use a new gasket kit when you put the gage sender back in.

DO THIS OUTSIDE and keep sparks away! also have a fire extinguisher handy (Halon or CO2 is good)

I used a 3/4in hose with a ball valve on the end so I could turn it off when I filled containers and then switched to the empty ones.....

It worked great and I got EVERYTHING out of the tank.....

Cheers,

Rick
