Can anyone tell me what kind of old motor has a model# 5d10e and a serial# of 16493.<br />There are no markings on this outboard motor other than it says it is a 5 hp. Could be a Evinrude.

Hey Doug,<br /><br />Could you check on the engine block and see if there is a soft plug with a model number? This number don't show up as any Johnny or Rude. May be the model number is messed up on the tag? Thanks.

Re: help for old motor ID

Hi Doug<br />Your motor was built by OMC's Gale div. They built these motors for several private brands. Some of the names are Western Auto, Goodrich,Fedway, AMC and many more. The 5D10 was made between 1951-54. For some reason I can't find your exact model# 5D10E. The problem seems to be the "E". If you can find another model# maybe I can identify the brand it was sold under and the exact year. A lot of these motors had two numbers, 5D10 being a Gale# and the other being a private brand#. I hope this helps a little.

See if the model number reads SD-10E ,in which case it would be a 1940-1942 16 hp Johnson.Just a shot.
