It's probably about the same as my 9.8..someone here gave the tip of standing the motor on it's head, so you are looking down the mid section. Make sure the lower is in the same gear as the shifter..then twiddle the shift handle till you see the coupler part in the midsection line up in the hole. Then slide the lower on making sure your water tube goes into the guide(you might want to lightly oil the water tube so it slides into the grommet easier). I have to jiggle the shift lever slightly so the shift shaft and coupler line up. It may take a couple tries but it's a 100 times easier than tring to do it with the motor right side up.
